Health Department: We work with the Heath
Department extensively. They refer an average of 8/9 clients
per month to us for free pregnancy tests as well as baby and
maternity supplies. Some of the Health Department's staff
has come through our training. Department of Social Services: Since taking the
APP program we receive several referrals monthly from DSS of
clients who need our help in areas of maternity or baby
supplies in addition to the adolescent parenting referrals.
School Social Workers and Counselors: The
networking among these individuals and CPC has been
cultivated with the APP Coordinator to the point that many
teens are now coming to CPC not just for parenting issues
but with concerns of morning after pills, pregnancy tests
and counseling
Hospital and Doctors: We encourage our clients to
seek medical attention and provide prenatal care for their
children. We send girls to the emergency room when there is
an immediate concern and refer them to their primary care
physician for prenatal care. We are in the process of
putting a brochure together for Doctors to give to their
patients explaining our ultrasound ministry. We encourage
them to seek out their primary care physician or provide
them with the information and contacts at the local health
department. We can also provide specific physicians who will
specifically see Medicaid patients.
Boys and Girls Clubs: Salvation Army Boys Club:
Our Abstinence Educator meets frequently with the teens to
talk about abstinence and needs of teenagers. West Gastonia
Boys and Girls Clubs: Our Abstinence Educator meets monthly.
Bessemer City Boys and Girls Club: Our Abstinence Educator
meets monthly
Elon Children's Home: CPC did an extensive summer
program with this group in Pineville paid for by the state
of NC.
With Friends: Our Abstinence Educator meets
Monthly with the teens at the With Friends, located on the
campus of Sisters of Mercy in Belmont, to talk about
abstinence and needs of runaway teens.
Adolescent Parenting Program: We now coordinate
this program which from 1988 until 2001 was run by DSS of
Gaston County. We have two staff who serves on the Advisory
Board.
Second Harvest Food Bank: We are actively working
with this organization to get formula and diapers at a
reduced price (14c per lb.) so we can provide our clients
with these items (often our donated supply of formula and
diapers does not meet our clients' demands).
Gaston Baptist Association: We refer our clients
who need clothes larger than 3T and network with them to
meet needs of clients we cannot supply.
Crisis Assistance Ministry: We refer callers and
clients to this ministry when they are in need of material
needs outside of our ministry. We have shared grant
information, we share volunteers and occasionally material
needs.
Potters House: In cases of drug or alcohol issues
we refer clients locally to this setting which helps women
with drug and alcohol addictions.
Maternity Home: We provide scholarships of
$500/month to send clients to approved settings. We have
also referred to Room at the Inn and Florence Crittendon in
Charlotte
Helping Agencies: Every first Monday of the month
we send one of our staff to a meeting of local helping
agencies that meets at the United Way here in Gastonia. This
is a time of sharing reports on ministries and has often
opened doors to meet additional needs of our clients.
Ministerial Associations: Whether it is the
ministers who come to our site every third Thursday to pray,
or the Cramerton Ministerial Association, the Cherryville
Ministers Association we continually look to reconnect our
clients back to faith settings.
Other Centers: Our Executive Director meets
quarterly with area Directors from across the state of North
Carolina. We have shared with the other Centers about
utilizing resources, specifically the East Lincoln Center
and Women's Resource Center in Shelby to offer our
Ultrasound services.
Other local Agencies: We refer clients to local
agencies for foster care and select lawyers for adoption
options. Depending on the client's needs we have referred to
Grace Ministries in Charlotte, Room At The Inn, Salvation
Army, RAPHA and frequently to the Interagency Resource
Center for housing needs.
Churches/Local Parishes: Every day where possible
we have a Pastor/Priest pray at the Center before we open to
clients. We rely heavily on their prayer. They often refer
clients to us and when appropriate we suggest churches in
their areas to our clients.
National Training: Our Executive Director goes to
Colorado Springs, CO, to stay abreast of new developments.
This meeting is hosted by Focus on the Family and includes
800+ Directors from the United States and Canada. |
